Commission a Painting
When a person or business have a space requiring a painting of a specific size or subject, a commission painting may be the best way to fulfill this need. In my practice, I have completed successful commissioned pieces. This is an exciting collaborative process I enjoy, getting to know the clients and sharing ideas.
When developing the project, a few things to consider are the size of the artwork (the size of the location), budget and timeline. First the subject matter and the dimensions of the work are decided. The budget of the project is confirmed once the size is established. A deposit for materials and supplies would be made at that point. Next, a maquette (small scale version of the work) is created ensuring the idea is going in the right direction. The maquette would be approved before working on the final piece. The entire process from start to finish may take 4-6 weeks.
Commissions often take place when a collector is attracted to a certain artwork, but are looking for a specific size. The piece may be inspired by an existing painting; however the proposed work would be uniquely created for each situation.
